Backyard Smash Burgers with Grilled NY Strip

A Father’s Day backyard BBQ recipe that uses the best of this box: Ground Beef for crispy-edged smash burgers and NY Strips for a steakhouse-style grill finish.

Ingredients

2 Credence Farms NY Strips
1–2 lb Credence Farms Ground Beef
Sea salt
Cracked black pepper
1 tbsp avocado oil or beef tallow
Burger buns
Cheddar or American cheese
Thinly sliced onion
Pickles
Lettuce
Tomato
Mustard
Ketchup
BBQ sauce, optional
Butter or beef tallow for the griddle

Steps

1. Remove NY Strips from the refrigerator 30–45 minutes before cooking. Pat dry and season generously with sea salt and cracked black pepper.

2. Preheat the grill to high heat, around 450–500°F.

3. Grill NY Strips for 4–5 minutes per side for medium rare, depending on thickness.

4. Rest steaks for 8–10 minutes before slicing.

5. While the steaks rest, divide Ground Beef into loose 3–4 oz balls.

6. Heat a cast iron pan or flat top griddle over medium-high heat with a small amount of beef tallow or butter.

7. Place beef balls on the hot surface and smash thin with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper.

8. Cook 2–3 minutes until the edges are crispy, then flip.

9. Add cheese and cook another 1–2 minutes.

10. Toast buns, add pickles, onions, lettuce, tomato, and sauce of choice.

11. Serve smash burgers with sliced NY Strip for a full Father’s Day backyard BBQ meal.
